Livid it might be after Darren Sammy’s stinging criticism but the West Indies Cricket Board is willing to welcome the newly-crowned World Twenty20 champions on the negotiating table in a bid to find a “common ground” on the long-standing and bitter pay dispute.

WICB President Dave Cameron said the board will speak to players to ensure that best talent in the Caribbean represents the island nations.

“Coming up in May this year, the Board will host its annual review (retreat) with the players, WIPA, selectors and the technical team to review player, management and technical plans. We want to see how we can find common ground in ensuring that the best players in the region are available for selection for West Indies teams,” Cameron said in a statement.

West Indies became the first team to clinch the World T20 title for a second time after beating England by four wickets last night.

The triumph became all the more significant given that the team was on the verge of pulling out owing to the pay dispute with the WICB.

Last night, Sammy gave vent to his and the side’s frustration by saying that they got absolutely no support from the Board and were disrespected by the officials.

Cameron has criticised the outburst, saying that Sammy’s comments were “inappropriate”.
